For more than 3000 years, Amethyst has been the most valuable member of the quartz group. From ancient Egyptian royalty, this transparent purple variety of quartz has enjoyed an historical importance as an insignia of power.  

Rose de France is a lavender Amethyst colour, sold as Pink Amethyst.

Prasiolite is a rare stone in nature and only mined in tiny quantities in Brazil.  Most amethyst will turn yellow or orange when heated, producing heat-treated amethysts which are marketed as citrine.

Some amethyst will turn green when heated. Currently, almost all Prasiolite on the market is a result from heating amethyst.
