Aquamarine
Aquamarine
The name Aquamarine is derived from the Latin word for seawater. Aquamarine is a member of the Beryl family, which includes Emerald and is known for its delicate blue or blue green colouring.
Aquamarine competes with blue topaz for attention, but fine aquamarine sells for far more than equivalent-quality blue topaz.
Aquamarine’s colour range is from very light blue, greenish blue, medium blue and dark blue (double blue) which is gem’s most valuable colour. In general, the purer and more intense the blue colour, the more valuable the stone. Most aquamarine sold commercially today is a pale to light greenish blue.
Aquamarine is the birthstone for March, and is a popular gemstone having a bright vibrant luster, coupled with a good degree of hardness.
